After our virtual Earth Week, the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability is working with local organizations to bring you a virtual green jobs and internships fair. Talks will be held online – but this time, there will be just two special sessions on one day: May 15, 2020.

The fair will be accessible through WebEx (with a phone dial-in option) or through Facebook livestream at https://www.facebook.com/hartfordsustainability/.

The first session will feature available green jobs in CT. Green Jobs Fair For Distribution No Background No Text 050820Participating organizations include: CDM Smith, PosiGen Solar and Energy Efficiency, Winterberry Gardens, Hartford’s Department of Public Works, and Eversource.

More than 75 currently available roles range from sustainable landscaping, masonry, solar installation, tree trimming and sales to environmental compliance, energy specialists,  engineering roles, and service-learning. A schedule of speakers and job information is posted below.

The second session will focus on green community service-learning opportunities and internships.

Service-learning positions through AmeriCorps and Public Allies with organizations such as the City of Hartford, Capital Community College, Habitat for Humanity, and the United Way will be discussed. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will talk about opportunities too.

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps places adults within nonprofit and public organizations across the United States for about one year of service. Members perform a range of duties such as supporting academic achievement, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more. The North Hartford Promise Zone is looking to fill four AmeriCorps VISTA positions. During service, members will receive a living allowance, healthcare benefits, and childcare support. After their service, members have the opportunity to receive a scholarship or a cash award, and one year of non-competitive eligibility when applying for federal jobs. The North Hartford Promise Zone is recruiting for:

City of Hartford Department of Public Works

The City of Hartford’s Department of Public Works team maintains the city’s physical infrastructure and provides quality services Hartford’s residents. DPW is currently hiring for multiple positions, including Tree Trimmer and also, Traffic Engineering Services Manager.

During the fair, our City Forester Heather Dionne will discuss how DPW is building out the City tree crew to meet ambitious tree canopy maintenance, protection and planting goals. She’ll also talk about what we’re looking for in a new hire for a Tree Trimmer position. More information on the other DPW position, which involves Traffic Engineering Services, is here. This role has the potential to help reduce local congestion and improve the bikability and walkability of our streets, which is a key priority for the City.

KNOX

Using horticulture as a catalyst for community engagement, KNOX forges partnerships between residents, businesses, and government, providing leadership to build stronger, greener, healthier and more beautiful neighborhoods in Hartford. On behalf of the City of Hartford public golf courses, KNOX is look to fill up to 10 groundskeeper positions at Keney and Goodwin Park Golf Courses with Hartford residents interested in maintaining these public courses. These golf courses are maintained through a partnership with the City of Hartford, Guilmette Golf, and KNOX.

 

PosiGen Solar and Energy Efficiency

PosiGen was founded in 2011 with one simple goal: give low and middle income families access to affordable solar and energy efficiency to dramatically cut their energy costs and improve their lives. In post-Katrina New Orleans, our founders shared the rebuilding city’s frustration that thousands of homeowners wanted to install solar and energy efficiency improvements in their homes, but were shut out due to the lack of significant income and high credit scores that other national solar companies require.

Public Allies Connecticut is an AmeriCorps program designed to develop the next generation, social change leaders. We are currently seeking dedicated, service-minded young adults to begin 10-month paid apprenticeships in nonprofit organizations around Connecticut, with positions available in the greater New Haven, Hartford, and Bridgeport areas. Winterberry Gardens

Winterberry is a landscaping and construction company based out of Southington, CT.  We have a diverse range of service offerings in the green industry, including landscape maintenance, fertilization, commercial and golf course irrigation installation and service, residential landscape design and installation, commercial landscape bid/build, and a retail garden center. We have grown more than 60% in the last three years and now employ approximately 175 team members at peak season. We pride ourselves on sustainable business practices and on a culture promoting individual growth in our team members.
